Swellendam is a beautiful little town, nestled at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains on the N2, about 240km from both Cape Town and George. A perfect stopover choice, Swellendam is an outdoor-lover's paradise. The fynbos-covered foothills of the mountains are home to many hiking, horse riding, mountain biking and 4x4 trails and, should one so choose, one can survey the spectacular Swellendam scenery from the comfort of a glider, soaring high above the mountaintops
There is no shortage of water sports in Swellendam as swimming, fishing, canoeing and water skiing are all popular pastimes in the nearby Buffeljachts Dam and Breede River. There are also spectacular sunset cruises offered on the dam.
The nearby Bontebok National Park, dedicated to saving this type of antelope, is a must-see for animal-lovers. In Swellendam itself, the Drostdy Museum Complex, founded in 1747, makes for a fascinating visit. Sulina's Faerie sanctuary, in Butekant Street, is an absolute treat for the whole family as is some of the local fare.
