The Johannesburg suburb of Cyrildene is wedged between the southern side of Linksfield Ridge and Bruma's Fishermans Village. Cyrildene is a completely fenced off suburb, the only entry being through traffic booms. The suburb has its own primary school, and, within walking distance, the Cyrildene Bowling Club. Along Derrick road has sprung up what has become known as the Johannesburg "Chinatown" where there are Chinese shops and restaurants galore. The Linksfield Ridge Nature Reserve just behind the suburb offers several rugged walks.
Two of Johannesburg's top tourist attractions have recently opened up in close proximity to Cyrildene - these are Bruma Flea Market and Bruma Lake with its Fisherman's Village. The latter is built to resemble a rambling Mediterranean fishing village and offers a number of good restaurants and boutiques. The suburb is also very close to Eastgate Shopping Centre, the first modern shopping mall to be opened in Johannesburg.
