The town of Bonnievale is close to 2 hours drive from Cape Town, perfect as a weekend getaway and far enough from the city to experience the essential "platteland". Bonnievale is one of the most beautiful towns in the Breede Valley and lies on the banks of the Breede River surrounded by the Langeberg and the Riviersonderend Mountains.
Bonnievale is home to 4 co-operative wine cellars, 4 estates and 2 private wine producers as well as 2 cheese factories, which has earned the village its reputation as the "valley of cheese and wine". Bonnievale is bypassed by Route 62 on the main Robertson-to-Montagu road, which often means that the busy traveller whizzes past without realising what he is missing - leaving those in the know the tranquillity of exploring Bonnievale on their own.
Aside from the Bonnievale wines, all part of the Robertson Wine Route, and the Parmalat and Mooivallei Suiwel cheese factories, one can enjoy hiking, golfing, fishing, canoeing, a trip on the Breede River Goose and bird watching.
