Van Loveren Wine Estate, located between Robertson and Bonnievale in the Cape Winelands, is one of South Africa’s largest family-owned wineries with a rich history dating back to 1937. The estate was originally purchased by Henk Retief and his wife, Jean, who named it Van Loveren after one of their ancestors. However, it wasn’t until 1980 that their grandsons, Nico and Wynand Retief, produced the first bottled wine under the Van Loveren label. Since then, the estate has grown into a major player in the South African wine industry, known for producing high-quality wines across a range of styles, from everyday drinking wines to premium offerings.
Van Loveren is particularly renowned for its award-winning Four Cousins range, a household name in South Africa. In addition to their well-regarded wines, the estate is committed to sustainable farming practices and has diversified its offerings to include eco-tourism activities. Visitors can enjoy guided wine tastings, cellar tours, and a variety of outdoor experiences such as hiking, birdwatching, and garden tours. Van Loveren also offers a delightful dining experience at their Christina’s Bistro, where guests can pair their wine tastings with locally inspired dishes.
