Tyger Valley

Tyger Valley is a suburb of Bellville situated to the north of Cape Town along the N1 highway, 15 minutes from the CBD. The suburb is famous for views stretching from the Boland Mountains to Gordon’s Bay, Table Mountain, Lions Head and Table Bay.

Greater Bellville lies on the slopes of the Tygerberg (‘leopard mountain’) so named because its soil and vegetation resembles the spots of a leopard. The 60 ha Tygerberg Nature Reserve with its renosterveld vegetation supports a variety of birds, reptiles, rodents and mammals, and has a number of hiking trails.

Tyger Valley is close to the Durbanville and Paarl wine routes, beaches (Bloubergstrand), golf courses, and weekend craft markets. Visitors can explore shops and restaurants at Tyger Valley Centre, Canal Walk or V&A Waterfront.

Nearby is the Tygerberg Zoo, home to 280 animal species that specialises in the breeding of rare and endangered wildlife. There is a children’s farmyard for younger visitors. The zoo is located north along the N1 highway from Tyger Valley towards Paarl.
