Nature's Valley is normally a sleepy coastal village but during peak holiday season it comes alive. It is virtually surrounded by the Tsitsikamma National Park. The resort lies in a beautiful setting of mountains, lagoon and sea. The surrounding coast and forests of Nature's Valley is abounding with a diverse population of birds. These include Cape Gannets, Kingfishers, Oystercatchers and the very spectacular fish-eagles.
Nature's Valley is also the start an end point of two of South Africa's most popular hiking trails. The very popular 48km Otter Trail is rated as one of the finest nature trails in the world. The trail leads west along the coast, from Storm's River Mouth to Nature's Valley. It then weaves through lovely coastal forests, tidal river-mouths, and steep gorges that seem to slide into the sea.
There are four overnight camps on the trail, all of them set in a very scenic setting. These camps are Andre's Camp, Oakhurst Hut, the Scott Camp at the Geelhoutbos River, and the Ngubu Camp. This trail is very popular and sometimes you have to book up to a year in advance. Don't attempt this trail unless you are reasonably fit.
The other trail that starts in the Nature's Valley resort is the 64km, five day Tsitsikamma hiking trail. It runs from Kalander in Nature' Valley to the Storms River Mouth. The shorter trails that start in Nature's Valley are, the Mouth, (which takes you over the Storms River Mouth suspension bridge) the Loerie and the Blue Duiker trails.
Nature's Valley, located within the Tsitsikamma National Park on the Garden Route of South Africa, is a serene and picturesque destination offering a wide range of activities and sights.
