Giyani is a small village situated some 160 kilometres to the east of Polokwane. The village was once the administrative centre and capital of the Shangaan-Tsonga homeland. Giyani is situated in an area of the lowveld just outside the Kruger National Park and is in an area surrounded by Mopane trees and scattered with the occasional Baobab.
Giyani is privileged in being host to one of the nation’s science and technology centres and as such enjoys visits from many otherwise underprivileged schools in Limpopo Province. Here the pupils are able to enjoy computer lessons and see what the Internet is all about as well as being able to take part in many experiments that they would otherwise not be able to do.
Local attractions include the Manomba Nature Reserve just outside the town and the Nsami Dam, a peaceful recreation area to the northeast of the village.
