Generaal De Wet is a quiet but well known suburb of Motheo in the Free State. It is about 6 kms northwest of the Free States capital city, Bloemfontein. Not far from Generaal De Wet you will find the National Womens Memorial which is situated in Monument Avenue in the southern neighbourhood Faunasig. The monument is on the same grounds as the Anglo-Boer War Museum. The big open spaces of untamed grassland that surround the terrain of the National Women's Memorial represents the untamed Free State fields and landscape from the time of the Anglo-Boer War. It is also interesting to know that Christiaan de Wet who was described as a great Boer general and rebel leader, was given a state funeral in Bloemfontein and buried next to President Steyn at the foot of the Womens Memorial.
