The Links at Fancourt Country Club in George, Western Cape, is renowned as one of South Africa’s premier golf courses and is consistently ranked among the best in the country and the world. Created with meticulous attention to detail, this course is situated within the larger Fancourt estate and offers a unique golfing experience reminiscent of classic Scottish links courses.
The Links at Fancourt was developed in 2000 by the late German entrepreneur Hasso Plattner, who envisioned creating a world-class golfing destination in South Africa. Designed by Gary Player, one of golf’s greatest champions and course architects, The Links was conceived with input from a highly skilled team, transforming what was once a flat piece of land into a sophisticated golfing landscape. Plattner's vision of a challenging, beautiful, and naturalistic course was brought to life through innovative design techniques, extensive planting of indigenous vegetation, and impressive craftsmanship. In 2003, The Links hosted the Presidents Cup, cementing its reputation on the global stage.
The Links is designed as a par 72, 18-hole course, often praised for its rugged beauty, challenging layout, and meticulous conditioning. Unlike traditional parkland courses, it features undulating fairways, deep bunkers, and wispy fescue roughs reminiscent of classic links courses found in coastal Scotland. While it can be a stern test for even experienced golfers, it also offers a visually stunning and rewarding experience for those up to the challenge.
