The picturesque, little town of Villiersdorp is just over an hour's drive from Cape Town and 25 minutes from Franschhoek. Also known as "The Pearl of the Overberg", the town produces some of the finest apples, peaches and apricots in the country and the Villiersdorp Wine Cellar, one of the oldest wine cellars in the country, offers exceptional export wines. Villiersdorp is on the Worcester Wine Route and wine tastings are held regularly in the Villiersdorp Wine Cellar.
The Theewaterskloof Lake, the fifth largest lake in South Africa, is just outside Villiersdorp and provides some wonderful bass fishing, sailing and water skiing. A scenic cruise on a catamaran is available for those only interested in relaxing on the water. Bordering on this lake is the Theewaterskloof Country Club, with a scenic 9-hole course.
In the town of Villiersdorp is the "living" Dagbreek Museum which has its own vegetable and herb garden and those interested in stone architecture dating back to the early 1900s should visit De Villiers Graaf High School and St. Augustine's Church.
