Sinoville is a semi-rural suburb of Pretoria and is situated about 8 kilometres from the city centre. The suburb along with the Sinoville Extension sits on the R513 (Zambesi Drive) just to the west of the junction with the N1 to all points North. The suburb is home to several large shopping centres and the old Wonderboom Drive In Cinema. Sinoville is ideally placed for access to Wonderboom Airport and for the Roodeplaat Dam and Nature Reserve. Pretoria's kopje is situated immediately to the south of Sinoville.
Pretoria itself was founded in 1855 by Marthinus Pretorius, a leader of the Voortrekkers, who named it after his father Andries Pretorius. During the First Boer War, the city was besieged by Republican forces in December 1880 and March 1881. The peace treaty, which ended the was, was signed in Pretoria on 3 August 1881 at the Pretoria Convention. Pretoria achieved official city status in 1931.
