Arthur Creswell Memorial Marathon
The Annual Arthur Creswell Memorial Marathon starts in Bergville at the farmers hall, in the KwaZulu Natal Drakensberg, and ends in Ladysmith. The 52km ultra-marathon is set over a relatively easy course, however one point, Childs Hill, located roughly 15km into the race, proves to be somewhat of a challenge to negotiate.
A short distance after the halfway mark, the course turns onto a dirt road, and takes runners through farm lands and forest areas. As runners near the 45km mark, the course provides runners with a few challenges, but most of the rest of the route into Ladysmith is downhill and easily manageable.
Not only is the Arthur Creswell memorial marathon a good opportunity to train for the Comrades or Two Oceans marathons, but it also allows runners the excellent opportunity to see some of the most scenic areas of the Northern Drakensberg area, as well as the historic KZN Battlefields.
