The Old Town Hall - Beaufort West, Western Cape

The Old Town Hall in Beaufort West, Western Cape, holds significant historical importance as it was part of South Africa's first municipality, established on February 3, 1837. This designation marked Beaufort West as a pioneer in local governance within the country.​

Adjacent to the Old Town Hall is the Dutch Reformed Mission Church, built in 1871, where Reverend Adam Barnard, father of the renowned heart surgeon Professor Christiaan Barnard, once preached. Both the Old Town Hall and the Mission Church have been declared national monuments and now form part of the Beaufort West Museum complex. This museum offers visitors insights into the town's rich history and its notable figures.​
