Kamberg Nature Reserve

Kamberg Nature Reserve is located in the foothills of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, and is centrally located in the foothills, making it an ideal stop off point for visits to various other well known Berg areas, from Lotheni to Giants Castle. The picturesque surrounds of Kamberg nature reserve, features three attractive picnic sites near the river, and the area has become well known for its excellent fly fishing.

There are also numerous well maintained walks in the area, one of which is wheelchair friendly. These self-guided trails lead visitors from the camp into the surrounding areas of the 'Little Berg' as well as along the Mooi River. Trout fishing can be enjoyed in the many dams which include the well known trophy trout fishing dams of Highmoor which must be booked in advance. Most of the other dams are open to anglers throughout the year and river fishing is permitted during the fly fishing season. Kamberg's trout hatchery is also worth an interesting visit, and is open to the public on a daily basis.

There is an awesome rock art shelter, and guided walks to the area are conducted on a daily basis. The earliest inhabitants of the Drakensberg region were Bushmen, or San people. The San lived in harmony with their environment, and never used more than they needed to survive. Unfortunately, violent clashes with white settlers and Nguni tribes brought their era to an untimely end, and all that is left to remind us of these fascinating people, is their art .
